Sesame Lamb Meatballs

Ground lamb mixture for meatball app or flavorful lamb burgers

  • 4 tsp sesame seeds
  • 2 tbs olive oil- divided
  • 1 small onion
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • ¼ C tahini
  • ¼ C prepared hummus
  • 2 Tbs fresh lemon juice
  • 2 Tbs water- plus additional as needed
  • 1 lb ground lamb
  • ¾ C panko bread crumbs
  • 2 Tbs minced parsley
  • ½ tsp ground cumin
  • ½ tsp ground coriander
  • 1 egg lightly beaten
  • ¼ tsp kosher salt- or to taste
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper- or to taste
  1. Toast sesame seed in small dry skillet over medium heat until its fragrant and they begin to brown- 3 0r 4 minutes. do not walk away from pan!!
  2. Saute onions and garlic in 2 tsp of olive oil until softened- set aside and cool
  3. Preheat broiler to high. cover baking sheet with foil and spray with oil
  4. Prepare Sauce: In small bowl combine tahini, hummus, lemon juice and 2 tbs water- mix thoroughly- should be on the thin side for dipping. Add water if need be
  5. Add lamb to cooled onion mixture along with panko, parsley, cumin, coriander, egg, salt & pepper and 2 tsp of toasted sesame seeds. Add remaining 4 tsp oil and mix well. Form into 12 balls and place on prepared baking sheet. Broil until surface is dark brown- 5 minutes for med rare, 6 minutes for med. Turn over and cook 5 or 6 minutes more.
  6. sprinkle with remaining sesame seeds and serve with dipping sauce.
